Food Justice at The New School (2017)

Program: Gural Scholars
Class of: 2020

Class of 2020 Scholars embarked on a research project on the importance of food at The New School. Through their research, they learned about disconnections between food offered through the school dining services, the unaffordability of those offerings for many students, and the emotional experiences emergent in that disconnection. Working to uplift already existing resources, the Scholars “adopted” The New School’s on-campus food pantry in Spring 2017, launching a poster campaign to raise visibility of the pantry and address stigma around food insecurity on campus. Along the way, Scholars wrote their own narratives and reflections of their relationship to food, and will be producing a zine of those creations in Fall 2017.
